We arrived here on a Thursday morning. The weather forecasters were predicting a snow blind blizzard coming in with 10-20 inches on Monday night. The master storm didn’t happen, but there was 8 inches laid over the City on Tuesday morning. Heaviest snow we have seen in many, many years. That was a week ago.
The snow plows came through clearing the streets and buried the parking lanes and half of the sidewalk in 2 foot snowbanks. The snow white banks have now turned a carbon grey-black, with a soot colored topping. It is melting, but very slowly.
Anyway….The trash collectors have not been able to pick up the trash that is lining the sidewalks. Each block, on both sides of the street are lined with large black plastic bags of garbage. Most sidewalks are stacked in 2 or 3 rows, stacked up 2 or 3 deep, going down most of the block. It reminds me of some of the movies back in the day of the sanitation strikes.
They’ll get it straightened out in the coming days, but for now, it certainly adds to the mystique of this place and is something we really don’t mind – for now.
