Okay, come on, you know you have to sing this one…)
Raindrops on sidewalks,
And blueberry Knishes.
Raspberry cheesecake and old-time cheek kisses.
NoHo and SoHo and church bells that ring,
These are a few of our favorite things.
West Greenwich Village and tables on sidewalks,
Washington Square and the poems in pink chalk,
Pigeons that fly with the moon on their wings,
These are a few of our favorite things.
When the train’s full.
When the wait’s long.
When the tourists come,
We simply remember our favorite things,
And give The City our love.
*****
Central park picnics and views from the rooftops
Subways and Archways and specialty craft shops
Small pocket gardens that bring flowers in spring,
These are a few of our favorite things.
*****
Tugboats and cruise ships and barges and bridges.
Cobblestone streets with their bumps and their ridges.
Cabbies that honk like there’s somewhere to go
These are the things that we’ve come to know.
*****
When Hudson winds blow
And there’s a foot of snow,
When the stench is bad,
We simply remember our favorite things
And then we don’t feel so sad.
*****
Street art and food marts, actors and beggars,
Artists, musicians, and foreigners together.
People are working to make dreams come true,
All take a moment to help someone too.
*****
When the news stinks,
When the market drops,
When life seems so wrong,
We simply remember our favorite things
And then we just sing this song.
This was so beautifully written and made ME feel all sorts of sad and nostalgic – and I’m not even moving! I know that when I am having one of those “NYC is so frustrating!” days, I’m going to remind myself to look back on this post and remember the good things about it. When do you guys leave? Safe travels!! I look forward to following you on your continued adventures throughout the rest of this beautiful country ❤

I assume this is your farewell blog to the Big Apple. What a fitting way to end such an awesome experience thank you for taking us vicariously with you! So sad I never made the 7 hour drive up there. 😦
